This sculpture is made out of "hangers", which was quite unusual to see. The reason I posted this picture is because the way the artist have used the media efficiently to create the sculpture. For example the hooks from the hangers creates an illusion of hair been texture on to the model. The most striking thing about this sculpture is that is been model as an authentic gorilla, however the "media" which it's been created makes it somewhat abstract.
side view of a silver back.
front view of a silver back, this is a typical dominant pose of a male gorilla.
in comparison to a human anatomy, the differences are quite clear. The shape of the skull is quite elongated and bulky. The ribcage is twice the size of ours. The pelvis area is quite lowdown, and the arms and the legs are very much a contrast to ours.
(Secondary research)- Theses research and drawings are from the courtesy of Disney Tarzan- animated movie. They really shows the complex anatomy of the gorilla in few scribbles on a paper.....fascinating stuff.
These are some of the poses captured by the artist's close observation of the personality, expressions and body-language of an actual gorilla.
This is more focusing on facial details and expressions. The model we looking here is the female character. The artist who created this characters has givens very distinctive features to it's character to appear more feminine, especially the bold eyes with the typical eyelids and very shallow eyebrows.
body feature- hands and feet of a gorilla. They also have quite distinctive features, the palms are very elongated covering 2/3rds of the hand where as the finger seems to shrunk in comparison to ours. These features there to help them to cope with the environment that they live in and it makes it easy to adapt to there surrounding.
Tarzan the main character from the film was a very interesting characters. Simply because the artist who created him the legendary Glen Keane, wanted his character to behave more ape rather than a human, is like creating a character with two personalities merge to one. Although i know that this character has nothing to do with what i am actually creating, I thought it will be quite interesting to post some of his studies of the character. enjoy!!!!
